The music scene is bursting at the seams with fresh talent, all wanting their five minutes of eternal glory. There's brand-new releases every week and funky indie bands are popping up all over the joint. There's been breakthroughs, comebacks and albums which have taken the entire world by storm this year; and it's only May...
But still, as you scroll through your iPhone's music bank of artists you've loved for years and through the hundreds of songs which suit every mood physically possible... You still find yourself with nothing to listen too.
You're bored of Peace and you've over-played NME's prodigy's Palma Violets "180" and you're looking for something to blow them all out of the water. You can't wait for Swim Deep's new album and you've already been on every illegal downloading website; frantically searching for "The Sea" but alas you have still come-up short.
Something new.. Something exciting... Something that isn't as soul crushing as finding yourself listening to a white nobody rapping about a thrift shop. Fret no more young soul / music searcher. I have compiled a list of fresh new music (and some you will have already heard of) to put an end to your torturous replays of overplayed tunes. Something new to sink your headphones into a delve into the unknown...
This list of new/new-ish/seemingly unheard of sounds, which are buzzing around through my headphones right now, will keep you entertained for at least a day:
Unforgettable / Pigeon Detectives
Pansy / Crim3s (not as sweet and innocent as the name suggests)
Wings / HAERTS: Wildcat! Wildcat! Remix
Keep In The Dark / Temples
Wallow / Coasts
Placid Acid / Tourist (2:39 trust me)
Don't Forget Who You Are / Miles Kane
We won't let our worries dictate who we are
See You On The Other Side / Frenetics
This One's For Love / The Chapman Family
Dancehall / Tribes
I don't care for dancing / but thanks for asking

Wavves / Sail To The Sun
It's fair to say that this mysteriously deceitful song will be one which will be on repeat again and again and again.
Starting off with a peacefulness which could only be described as making you feel light-headed and happy; it seems as if Wavves has created the ultimate lazy summer sleep song. But with a sudden twist the song is set into orbit leaving you with one word on your lips "wow". "Sail to the Sun" is about leaving your 9/5 job at home, doing whatever the hell you want and getting so fucked up on the way that you can't even remember what your name is, or who the girl you've just slept with is. Living fast and dying young.
The droning and elongated lyrics which Wavves exaggerates a long, hot beach day, are turned on their heads and blend in directly with the sea. Not many artists can really create that sense of transportation to a happier time; but Wavves has seriously succeeded.
With a casual excited tone, Wavves will have you singing "I don't wannaaaa / get left behind" for the rest of the day. And when the summery-grungy guitar riffs rip in to the chorus, all hell breaks loose and the dreams fulled by alcohol and party substances begins to flow.
"Sail to the Sun" is that tune of Summer which you think "fuck it, road-trip!". It's the ultimate feel-good tune to get you singing and dancing around the campfire; or at least dreaming about it on these cold spring days filled with snow.

work drugs // dirty dreams
A year ago in release; but dreamlike duo Work Drugs have prove once and for all - that you really don't need drugs to feel like you're on top of the world.
If you've ever experienced a "musical high" or the feeling of euphoria then you'll understand how fantastic this free and loosely stringed music can make you feel. And that is what Work Drugs do; produce the ultimate music high. Washing waves of synthesised beats with prominent keyboard punches; the band from Philadelphia create the ultimate summer break song.
Having slots on tour with the likes of Irish Two Door Cinema Club, Memoryhouse and Battles; even though Work Drugs was firstly a side-project; they've came further than they would've dared to imagine.
The sedative slur of the mysterious lyricists words slope over your mind - and make you want to dance, sing, run and jump into a pool of summer breezes. Having the pulsing instruments over the top of the breathy voice makes the track resemble a party at sunset on the beach; all the memories being laid out, one by one on top of one another.
Having a slight Crystal Castles-esk to them; Work Drugs' specific smooth-fi sound really gets inside of your head. The repetitive sounds and repetitive lyrics whip up a frenzy and create the feeling that something so amazing is about to happen.
Work Drugs say their music is for "dancing, boating, sexting and living". The layers of tones all compliment each other and really create the mood of thinking "fuck it" and doing something you'll probably live to regret in the morning.
The dream-pop duo post regular songs to their SoundCloud page https://soundcloud.com/#work-drugs their most recent song to be posted entitled "Delta" speaks of trippy pop infused with smooth jazz and love.

Sir Sly //
Sir Sly aren't just a bunch of kids paddling in the shallow end of the river - they're the ones making the new waves in indie music.
An LA trio; which are shrouded by a cloak of a lazy summers days excitement and hold the key to the mystery surrounding the shoe-gazing scene are the latest band to really make you believe 2013 is going to be the year.
Since Sir Sly crept onto the scene last summer, they've been quietly working behind the scenes to bring three songs to the table; which feelings can only be described as feeling "vertigo". On their YouTube channel (SirSlyMusic) three songs have been posted in the past week, and all three of them bringing completely different chills of synth.
Ghost // Gold // Where I'm Going
Ghost // The delicate lyrics that speak of sadness and leaving have dramatic under-tones of hidden meanings and tell stories of love. The soft voice echoes throughout the track and is complimented by the sparkly booming of the synthesised beats. "Ghost" has the powerful emotion of a Maccabees song but with gut-punching power to make you double-take.
Gold // An electrifying song which is full of hazy emotions. The striking lyrics hit you hard and fast - with the catchy chorus playing, the tune will be left in your mind for days on end. But on "Gold" it isn't the lyrics that make this something for your ears to prick up to; it's the pungent and sharp piano riffs that leave you feeling speachless and full.
Where I'm Going // From the three new songs published on YouTube - "Where I'm Going" is the game-changer. Elongated emotion-filled strings of lyrics with hidden meanings arise from the sinister tone of the synthesiser. "All of my love/was wasted on you" mixed together with the adverse beats, really create a song worth the second glance.

the 1975 // sex ep
The 1975 are four piece from Manchester, who've made casual sex with an average in hi-tops, sound like a naive, love-sick lullaby about a princess on her high horse - a comparison not for the faint hearted and that not many bands can pull off.
Their latest song "Sex", single from their EP entitled the same name is one of them songs that grab you by the gut and make you double-take and think in the words of Manchester legends The Stone Roses "this is the one we've waited for".
The lead single off the new EP is an explosion of haunting brilliance. The woozy lyrics sung by the mysterious Matthew Healy, entwine electrifying quick-wit with a relaxed feeling of comfort. If you were this girl who "has a boyfriend anyway", you wouldn't really have to think twice.
The 1975 infuse rousing guitar riffs with explosions of passion and pain from the drum kit - creating the atmosphere of a sweaty mosh gig - right in your ears.
Oozing with excitement and dripping with fantastic imagery - the four piece's four song-long EP "Sex" really hits home. The band is one of those you tend to find in the early hours of the morning by accident, when you're scowering that side of YouTube you've never come across, from just clicking on a Swim Deep video.
The "Sex EP", their second EP, was released on 19th of November 2012; and for only £2.49 you can't be going wrong. The four songs on the EP all have an amazingly dynamic sound which seriously but the 1975 up for one of the bands to stick to in 2013.
